News You Can Use

September 8, 2008

Again with the long absences…I’m not sure what happened to my skill with time management but it seems to have just flown out the window these days!

And there is quite a bit to share, so here we go:

  • Leighann from Soy is the New Black emailed me last week to tell me that she is currently holding a giveaway on her blog to raise awareness about her fundraising efforts for the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes (which way too long of a title, IMO, but I digress). All you have to do is send in an email, but her post has all the details for how you can win. Some of the prizes are from Johnson & Johnson and Leap Frog, so if you have kids, check it out! Entering the giveaway is free, but while you’re there, feel free to donate to the cause!
  • Did you hear about the CGM press release from JDRF? It’s all over the news blogosphere. I’ll defer you to Kerri’s interview with an expert on the study.
  • Speaking of JDRF, did you know the last day to apply for Children’s Congress 2009 is Monday, October 6? That’s just a little less than a month away. Children’s Congress is an awesome opportunity to meet with your Member of Congress in Washington D.C., experience a real Senate hearing, and be a part of a lifechanging event. I was a Children’s Congress delegate in 2001 and it was by far one of the best experiences of my life. It was one of the first advocacy events I did and it made me a more passionate and compassionate person. For more information, visit JDRF’s CC09 application page.
  • In case you missed them, I have two new articles up on Diabetes Health’s website. The first article is an overview of some of the newest diabetes companies on the market. But these aren’t your typical pharmaceutical only-in-it-to-make-a-quick-buck companies. These companies are diabetes start-ups, launched by people with an intimate understanding of the disease. Most of the founders are parents of children with diabetes, who wanted to help make life easier for others. The second article is an overview of the CGM Campaign launched by Gina Capone. If you haven’t signed the petition yet, what the heck are you waiting for? A personal invitation???
